I walked out of Denny Bar Company and saw the gold letters in the window across Main Street: BREAD. PASTRY. Short enough pitch. I crossed the street, walked in, and ordered the Sweet Cream Cold Brew β cold, not sweet-bombed, exactly what the afternoon needed.

Farmhouse Bakery is a family-owned operation at 445 Main St, and the room makes that clear fast. The counter runs the length of the space: curved glass pastry case on the left, a wood-and-glass display in the center stacked with packaged goods and Field Notes notebooks, espresso setup on the right with a proper commercial grinder. The menu board covers espresso drinks, cold brew, food, and ice cream.

The spring specials board behind the pastry case listed a Strawberry Matcha, a Lavender Cream Cold Brew, and a Raspberry White Mocha the day I was in β seasonal, not permanent, so what you see will depend on when you show up. The ice cream case runs along the same counter: Mocha Almond Fudge, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Vanilla. Bakery items rotate, but sourdough is the anchor. It's what this place built its name on β and they'll even ship it, so check the site for current shipping details.

There's seating, A/C, and charging ports β the kind of setup that turns a quick stop into an hour. The white cup stamped with Etna, CA is a small thing, but it signals the same intention as the rest of the place: a bakery that's serious about what it's doing and not interested in pretending to be anything else.

They're closed Sundays, and hours shift with the season β check farmhousebakery.org or call (530) 467-3003 before you make the drive. The cold brew gets you in the door. Order the sourdough before you leave β it's what you'll want on the drive home, and by then it'll be too late.
