A steakhouse's best-value item is sometimes on the happy hour menu, and at Market Steer in Santa Fe, that's the Green Chile Smash Burger. Two smashed patties, a thick layer of roasted green chile, melted white cheese, and pickled red onion to cut through all of it, on a toasted bun. The chile is the point. In most of the country, green chile on a burger is a novelty. In New Mexico, it's a baseline, and this one has real char on it. It's a good excuse to stop at 4pm and let the day end early, which Santa Fe is very good at convincing you to do. Now I want to hear from people who live here: where's the best happy hour in Santa Fe? I don't mean the most famous one. I mean the place you'd send a friend who's in town for one night.

☔ Santa Fe in the rain hits different. Had to get out of the house today and wander down to the Plaza. The bricks were glowing red, the Five & Dime was lit up, chile ristras were swaying off the balconies at Ortega's, and the whole place smelled like wet adobe and piñon. 🌶️ We've been getting SOAKED lately, with more on the way. We're sitting at a chilly 56° with rain rolling in and out, and tonight could bring over an inch. There's a flood watch through Wednesday night, so take it slow out there, skip the flooded arroyos, and don't drive through water on the road. 🚗💦 Honestly though? Rain in the high desert is a gift. Everything's greener, the air is crisp, and downtown is quiet enough to feel like it's all yours.
