Sommeliers Brad and Effie Stees Conceived Envy Wine Room, a Sip and Shop Wine Bar in Old Town Spring

Sommeliers Brad and Effie Stees conceived Envy Wine Room, and it sits within Why Not Envy Me?, a boutique and gift shop, for what the owners call the ultimate sip and shop experience.

The City Editor's photo of the main dining room at Envy Wine Room shows a large flame mural in red, orange, yellow and purple across the back wall, above a row of wine bottles, with a chalkboard on an easel, wooden wine racks, pendant globe lights and small round tables.

The City Editor captioned that photo "Main Dining Room with a beautiful mural."

The wine room's home page says it is "Located in Historic Old Town Spring," at 126 Midway Street in Spring, Texas.

The Envy Wine Room contact page says, "Nestled in the heart of Old Town Spring, Envy Wine Room boasts a unique ambiance that seamlessly blends modern chic with classic charm."

A love story over a bottle

Community Impact reported in 2017 that for Effie Stees, "Wine classes and romantic dinners formed the backdrop for the beginning of her relationship with her husband, Brad." Brad owns Envy Wine Room with her.

"Our love story opened up over a bottle of wine," Effie Stees told Community Impact.

The Our Story page on the Envy Wine Room website says, "Born out of a shared love for good wine and good company, Envy Wine Room was conceived by Sommeliers Brad and Effie Stees, with the mission to bring exceptional wines and unparalleled wine education to the heart of historic Old Town Spring."

The City Editor's photo of the main dining room shows diners at tables past a doorway, with a wine rack in the center of the room and wine bottles on shelves along the walls.

Effie Stees told Community Impact in 2017 that she wants to challenge people's perceptions of wine drinking as a stuffy pursuit. "If you come in more than once, I will remember your name and what you drink, and you are now my friend," she said.

Sip and shop

"Nestled within Why Not Envy Me?, a boutique and gift shop, Envy Wine Room offers the ultimate sip and shop experience," the Our Story page says.

The Envy Wine Room food menu says of the pretzel's red wine spicy mustard, "Our Mustard Available for Purchase in The Boutique." The menu says of the charcuterie board's cranberry, fig and Merlot jelly, "Our Jams & Jelly available for purchase in the Boutique."

The City Editor's photo captioned "Tasting Couches" shows two brown tufted leather armchairs by a window under a large gold framed mirror, with bottles of champagne in yellow ice buckets on a side table.

The wine

"Our curated selection spans from classical favorites to the most esoteric gems, ensuring a diverse and approachable experience for every palate," the Our Story page says.

The OpenTable listing for Envy Wine Room says, "We have over 175 wines by the glass or bottle."

Community Impact reported in 2017 that the owners also make house sangria, "combining up to 15 different wines with fruit and letting the mixture sit to soak up the flavors."

The City Editor's photo captioned "White Wine Flight" shows four bottles of white wine on the bar with filled glasses on a stand, and the bar top is covered in wine corks. The City Editor's photo captioned "Pinot Grigio" shows two glasses of white wine on the cork covered bar.

Your own locker

The Envy Wine Club page lists three levels, Emerald, Gold and Platinum.

The Envy Wine Club page says Platinum "is a limited Number Membership." Platinum includes "A Beautiful locking locker to store up to 18 wines and your own stemware in, complete with your own key and nameplate."

The Envy Wine Club page also tells Platinum members, "Drink your club wines on premise."

The City Editor's photo captioned "Private Lockers and reserved Seating" shows a wall of dark wood lockers with glass doors and small nameplates beside a long table set with plates and napkins.

The Envy Wine Room food menu has sections for Envious Small Plates, Green With Envy Salads, Entrees, Build Your Own Crusts and Sweets.

The Chicken Picatta is "Lightly Dusted with Our Signature Chardonnay Wine Rub." The menu also lists a Chardonnay Wine Rubbed Salmon.

The menu says all pizzas are 12 inches and cut into 8 slices, and it lists the Roma, Margherita, Envious Pie and Smokey Pig. The Sweets section lists Liquor Filled Truffles.

Built back

Community Impact reported in February 2022 that Effie and Brad Stees noted in a Facebook post that the Envy Wine Room facility was a total loss after a fire. "We will rebuild and will come out the other side stronger and better," Effie and Brad said in a joint Facebook post.

Community Impact reported in July 2022 that Envy Wine Room would celebrate its grand reopening in Old Town Spring on Sept. 1.
