Soul Connections Covers the Mount Shasta Shop Floor

Katherine and Bruce have run this shop since 2003. Crystals, gongs, books, and chalices sit under a purple awning on North Mount Shasta Boulevard.

The purple script on the awning is what you see first from the sidewalk. Soul Connections, in that looping hand, on a gray metal slope over a cream facade. Every window and door is trimmed purple. A lamp-post banner on the boulevard says WHERE HEAVEN & EARTH MEET. A neon OPEN sits in the glass. The window copy is small and gold and includes Statuary and Yoga Supplies. I walked in off North Mount Shasta Boulevard on a bright day and the room went purple with me β€” the countertop, the carpet, the wall behind two white registers.

Mount Shasta gets sold as the peak and a weekend of spiritual talk. That is a visitor schedule. The shop that actually covers metaphysical needs in this town sits on the boulevard, and people treat it as the default. Crystals. Gongs. Books. Crystal chalices. If you need the tools, this is the floor.

Soul Connections' own site is plain about the work. The mission is to serve each soul walking the spiritual path. They look for one-of-a-kind handmade items from around the world, New Age and spiritual tools that run higher-end and also stay affordable. Katherine and Bruce run it. They have been running it for years. A Record Searchlight piece from December 13, 2021 named the owners Catherine Vergeer-Catlin and her husband Bruce Catlin, and said they opened Soul Connections in 2003 after moving here from Montana. On the floor she is Katherine. That is how the visit landed. The same 2021 piece called the store expansive: people examining crystals along the wall, sitting on the floor with books about angels, yoga, natural health, and spirituality, a customer on a gong. The owner known for purple. That part still holds. The awning is purple. The counter is purple. The carpet is purple.

The address is not hidden. Soul Connections is at 329 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd., Mt. Shasta, California 96067. The phone on their site is 530-918-9533. Facebook and Instagram are linked from the same site. The official page does not list hours. Yelp posts Monday through Saturday 10 to 6, and Sunday 12 to 5. I am not going to invent a Sunday 11.

Up front, the checkout is an L-shaped wood counter with that purple top. Two white registers. A small crystal tree. A Mount Shasta book on the counter. Jewelry cases sit low with rings in black trays. Dreamcatchers hang from the ceiling in white and brown. A chakra banner runs the wall. Butterfly frames. Someone behind the counter, someone walking in from the door. This is a working shop, not a set.

Then the book aisle. Tall dark wood cases, purple labels on the shelf edges, a wooden bench with a Southwest pillow, a purple crystal tree on a side counter. Children's books on the low shelves. A Mount Shasta section you do not have to hunt for. The Record Searchlight already told you people sit on the floor here and read. The carpet would let you.

Past that, the crystal islands. Light-wood tables with dark tops, packed with quartz clusters, rose quartz, tumbled stone in bins, a dark amethyst piece in the foreground. Wall shelves on slatwall hold the larger specimens β€” orange points, blue pieces, dark minerals. Price tags on the shelf lips. Someone reaching for a wall piece. This is the part of the store people come in already knowing they want.

The sound room is its own aisle. Gongs down the middle, the first one iridescent, purple and bronze and gold, a purple sign on the stand: Please do not play. Ask for a demo. Thank You. More gongs behind it. Frame drums on the left, cream and white and black. Tongue drums in a run of color. Djembes. Chimes hung high. Metal singing bowls and crystal singing bowls. Blue cases of tuning forks. This is where the shop stops being a crystal counter and becomes the reason people drive in from out of town.

Here is the part a brochure will skip. The sound room is not a playground. That sign is the rule. You look, you ask, you get a demo. If you came to walk the aisle hitting every gong, this is the wrong room. I am also not going to sell you a mystery about the couple. They have been on this boulevard since 2003. They stock the floor. They do good in Mount Shasta in the plain way a shop does good when it stays open and keeps the shelves full. That is enough.

I will not invent a last name at the door. I can say what the visit was. Katherine at a large iridescent gong, almost her height, hung in a gold circular frame. Turquoise mallet. Patchwork skirt. Green pendant. Silver hair. Another gong behind her. Chimes in the corner. Lavender walls, purple carpet, a drop ceiling, a camera in the corner. The shop was friendly in the way shops are friendly when the people who run it are actually on the floor. If you need crystals, books, a chalice, or a gong in this town, this is the call.

Tomorrow is simple. Drive North Mount Shasta Boulevard. Look for the purple script on the awning and the banner that says WHERE HEAVEN & EARTH MEET. If the neon says OPEN, you are in time. Walk the counter, the books, the crystal islands, the sound room. Ask for a demo. Do not play the gongs yourself. The site is soulconnectionstore.com. The phone is 530-918-9533. Facebook and Instagram are on that site if you want the current floor before you go. We went. We walked the rooms. The awning was still purple when we left.
